Reporting to: Head of Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Facilities

As a Commissioning Technician you will mainly be responsible for (but not limited to) the duties described in this job description.

Job Purpose & Context

There are several vacuum-based plasma deposition tools in use by the team. It is essential that these machines are both production viable, and validated, to a high standard to ensure the work carried out on them is relevant and can be quickly transferred to the engineering team; or deployed into the field as business needs dictate.

You will be an excellent communicator and will ultimately ensure that P2i’s complex & innovative technology is implemented and maintained efficiently and within the parameters defined.   All day to day technical problems will be resolved effectively to optimise the availability and performance of the machines. You will have daily contact with the Engineering team and will ensure the compliance to quality standards such as P2i’s QMS and ISO 9001 - 20015.

In addition, there will be development projects looking at re-designing the systems and trialling new hardware as the individual projects dictate.

Main Responsibilities

·       Commissioning, testing, fault-finding and validation of newly arrived P2i Nanotechnology machines, about to be deployed into the field

·      Electrical and Mechanical testing, modifications and fault finding on P2i nanotech machines

·       Deliver multiple projects on time and to specification, as required

·       Ensure all machines are built to the correct/desired standard and are validated for use

·       Hands-on resolution of day-to-day technical problems

·      Fault finding on automation, electrical systems, PLC’s, PAC’s, logical systems, HMI’s, embedded systems and software

·      To maintain comprehensive and accurate records of all work in formats required

Academic Qualifications or Key Knowledge


·      Three-phase, single-phase and low voltage fault finding, modification, upgrade and wiring

·      18th Edition-Qualified (BS7671:2008)

·      Relevant trade qualification C&G, BTEC, etc)



·       Relevant qualifications in Electrical or Electronics Engineering

·       Engineering HNC or above


Skills & Experience


·       Three-phase, single-phase and low voltage fault finding, modification, upgrade and wiring

·       Electrical power panel and control panel experience of fault finding, modifications and wiring is essential

·         Knowledge of installation techniques, particularly for electro-mechanical assemblies

·         Ability to read, understand, build to, and fault-find, using wiring schematics and circuit diagrams

·          Ability to read, understand, build to, and modify, using mechanical drawings, instructions, and BOMs

·         Ultimately - to test, fault-find, prove & validate electrical automation and mechanical functionality

·         Electrical safety testing experience

·         Experience with PLC’s and PAC’s

·         Familiarity with IT: LAN/WAN/IP Configurations (advantage)

·         Ability to work to agreed project programme, i.e. project deliverables on time

·         Microsoft Office (working knowledge of Excel and Word)



·        Pneumatics (advantage)

Other Duties

Specialist projects as agreed with the Manager to support the business requirements of the organisation. In addition, the Manufacturing Engineer will carry out any other reasonable duties requested.
